Castlerigg Stone Circle

Castlerigg Stone Circle is situated near Keswick on a small plateau which forms a raised natural amphitheatre set against a stunning backdrop of rugged fells.

Castlerigg

Visually impressive and very atmospheric, Castlerigg is one of the most visited stone circles in Cumbria.

Castlerigg is made up of 38 stones and is roughly 30 metres in diameter, some of the stones have been aligned to the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.

Inside the circle are another 10 standing stones and the site is believed to date back to 3200BC making Castlerigg one of the earliest stone circles in Britain.
